The Jefferson County Branch faced a challenge familiar to many of our branches: sustaining strong leadership in a time when volunteer roles demand both dedication and vision. Yet, rather than lose momentum, they chose collaboration. The members came together with determination, driven by a shared belief in the mission and in one another.
Recognizing that the future depends on engaging the next generation, they set their sights on connecting with local colleges, confident that such partnerships would both enrich young women and revitalize their branch. Their efforts have now come full circle. Jefferson County has successfully organized an event in partnership with one of these colleges, a powerful step toward visibility, renewal, and community impact. What began as a challenge has become an inspiring model of resilience, creativity, and forward-looking leadership.
Dorothy Zegarelli, Interim President of the AAUW Jefferson County Branch, graciously invites all AAUW NYS members to attend "Strong & Smart: A Self-Defense Workshop for Women" taught by David Buckley, Director of Safety & Security at Jefferson County Community College. Members may participate in this FREE event either in person at JCCC Campus (if you are nearby) or via Zoom. This is a topic that would be useful for all of us. This workshop is being hosted by AAUW Jefferson County in cooperation with Jefferson County Community College. Click here to register!
